Google My Business will be Replaced with Google Search and Google Maps in July 2022

Google Maps Business

The Google My Business (GMB) app is officially dead. But before you start writing a eulogy or panic that your business will disappear into the ether of the interweb- don’t worry you can still access your new Google Business account via the Google Maps or Google Search apps.

Google is constantly updated for a more seamless user experience and thus decided to do away with the dedicated GMB app and integrate it into places you’re probably already using on a daily basis. For the low down on how to access and manage your Google Business account check out the tips in this article.

When will the switch occur?

If you’ve tried opening your Google My Business app this month, you may be shocked to discover it’s nowhere to be found on your phone or app store. Don’t worry, back in May 2022 Google announced it would be replaced with their new Google Business account.

how to access GMB

If you already have a GMB all your information will be automatically ported over. To access your account you’ll need the Google Maps app or Google search app, available on the App Store for iPhone or Google Play for Android users.

Google Maps (business)

To access, simply open the Google Maps app and search your business name. Alternatively you can click on the profile icon in the top right of the app, this will open a list of options. Tap “Your Business Profile” to view your account.

google search (business)

If you’re on a desktop type the name of your business  and it will appear in a box to the right of the search results. If you’re on mobile it will appear at the top of the page. If you’ve already claimed your Google Business account you can search “my business” and it will appear.

Key Features

Google announced there will be some differences between the platforms but the three key utilities remain. Via the Google Business account you can:

  1. Edit and update your profile information
  2. Become more visible by sharing posts and photos
  3. Engage with customer by commenting on user reviews

Business Profile Manager

If you do the bulk of your business management from a desktop you can access the business profile manager via business.google.com

Google may have flipped the kill switch on the GMB app but its key features are now easily accessible on Google Search or in the Google Maps app. The Google Business profile is a valuable tool in your marketing strategy to boost SEO and make it easier for customers to connect with you.
