Reflecting on the past decade, we can’t help but marvel at the journey we’ve been on. Ten years ago, social media was a mystery to most business owners, the iPhone 5 was a novelty, and strategy was just a word in a business plan. And Carmella? Back then, we were a nameless company, a newborn in the business world, with much to learn and prove.
We started with two services: social media and strategy. That was it. No scheduling tools. No image banks. No rulebook. We learned by diving in head first, testing formats, writing our guidelines, and figuring out how storytelling on Facebook worked differently than storytelling across a boardroom table.
We’ve since built marketing ecosystems for tourism boards, resorts, and real estate developers across North America. We’ve led campaigns that bring people together, grown brands from one-person startups into major players, and helped launch ideas that challenge how marketing is “supposed” to look.
Through it all, Carmella has stayed curious. We’ve watched platforms rise and disappear. We’ve seen trends flare and fade. What hasn’t changed is the need for genuine connection, compelling content, and strategies that drive results. Our belief in using marketing as a force for good hasn’t changed either.
This business was founded with family at the centre. Our name, Carmella, is a blend of Carmen and Bella, the names of our founder’s two daughters, who have grown up alongside the business. As they’ve matured, so have we. It’s a unique parallel that reminds us how far we’ve come and how much we’ve flourished.
Today, Carmella is not just a company, but also a community. We’re a team of passionate marketers, writers, strategists, designers, and digital thinkers, all dedicated to our clients’ success. We’re still based in Canmore, Alberta, but our ideas stretch far beyond the mountains. We work with national brands and local legends, always striving to do good work with good people and giving back to the causes that have shaped who we are today.
As we celebrate our tenth anniversary, we’re not resting on our laurels. We’re diving headfirst into the future, investing in AI and automation, and helping our clients find their voice in the ever-evolving market. We’re still learning, still iterating, and still finding new ways to do what we’ve always done best: connect, create, and deliver strategy that sticks.
